Cave Point

If you haven't figured out yet, we like to see the various state and county parks around Wisconsin. We purchase a state park pass every year, and it is worth every penny. Today's page is from a county park in Door County, called Cave Point.

Cave Point is a park on Lake Michigan, again it has some cool cliffs and broken off boulders. If you hike to the north, you can get down to the water and walk along the edge. If you hike south on the trails you hike along the cliff and stay higher up.

The north edge of the park is shallow at the water level

The south trail is much steeper and takes a little risk to hike down
This was our second trip to Cave Point this year. We went once on Memorial Day weekend becasue it was really windy and the waves were wild. This time our cousin's came to visit, and this was their first visit to the park. Their little guy "A" was very into getting wet. The waves were well over my head, and we got soaked.

I decided to use more WRMK Divided Page Protectors for this trip-notice my favorite washi tape

I love this paper from My Minds Eye. Since it was a grey vacation overall, the greys and blues tie all the pages nicely together, and the pop of yellow describes our sunny day. The little banners were really easy to make with a square punch, going in diagonally instead of straight in.
I am a total lover of the WRMK divided page protectors. I always have so many pictures, and this is a nice clean way to display them and have a good amount of journalling to tell about our awesome day!

Door Bluff Park

If you don't like heights, be warned, this hike is not for the weak. Door Bluff park is at the north end of the Door County Peninsula.

One of the broken off boulders from the cliff. This has been down for at least 8 years.

You drive out on a single lane dusty gravel road. You park by the outhouse and follow a single footpath through the woods. You can smell the fresh pine trees and hear the waves crashing along the shore below. The drop down the side of the cliff is dramatic.

The hike down isn't bad, you have gravity on your side. You have to be willing to sit on your butt as you climb down the rocks, but I don't mind getting dirty.

Another use of my cuttlebug folder
At the bottom of the cliff, when you come off the trail is a beach of rock sculptures and a teepee. The teepee was built at least 8 year ago from driftwood that washed up on the beach. People say that the sculptures remind them of Easter Island.
I love the black background paper and the black matting and how the pictures pop

I misted the title card with a Mister Huey mask for a distressed effect.

My inside the teepee

If you ever make it to Door County, this is a must see park!

Door County 2012

And once again it starts. My line up of Door County Summer Vacation photos!!! Over the next couple of weeks I've got posts scheduled featuring my Door County vacation photos from August of 2012. This year was rainy and cold overall. We only had one beach day. Or else it was overcast and windy. We've never needed pants or sweatshirts so we were in for quite a surprise.

Big surprise: the paper line is Echo Park. My new technique that I am back into is inking the edges of photos and paper. My only issue is smearing it as I adhere it onto the page.

I am so excited for summer to come around again. I'm done with cold weather and the students are missing outside recess.

Our Last Supper

During the last week of classes this spring, two of our professors took the six cognitive impairment students out to dinner. These two teachers meant the world to us and were amazing. They taught us so much and gave us so many amazing experiences. So we went out for pizza to commemorate the semester and have a good time. We ended the night with a little picture taking (which I didn't even have to ask for).

The paper line is from Simple Stories Snap line. I am a sucker for polka dots and stripes. The two cardstock papers were embossed with my cuttlebug. I am in love with the new chevron folder. I ran some embossing ink over the cardstock and then used clear embossing powder to give it a glossier look.
The flowers are from Imaginecse. They are my favorite brand of flowers. I keep my eyes on  Scrapbook Steals for them.

Weekend on the Lake

Its downright cold here and there is nothing better than scrapping summer vacation photos. Same goes for when I am scrapping Christmas pictures in July when it is 100 degrees outside. Today's pages are from our visit to my aunt and uncle's lake house.

The paper is from Echo Parks Hello Summer Line. I am so in love with the colors from this line and how versatile it is for all my pictures. I have used it for pictures from May onward. I rarely order an entire line, but this was one I had to have everything of. Even the stickers are fun, and I have been using them. I am famous for collecting my stickers in a basket.

I also used the WRMK photo sleeves. These are just amazing when you have a lot of pictures from an event, but don't want to have too many pages for one event. This is one way I have stream lined my scrapping over the past year. Initially I did not embrace these pockets, but now I like them. Especially since we do a lot of the same summer activities each year. I can scrap my favorite pics, but keep all the pictures together.

This last page is amazing. I love the simplicity and how it reflects the beauty of the pictures. There is nothing better than a summer sunset.

Top 10 Scrappy Products of '12

As I have grown in the past years of my scrapping, I wanted to do a little review of my favorite products I got into last year. Some of these products are by no means new to the market, but I wanted to highlight some that are new favorites to me and my scrapping. Some of these I have tried on my own, and some I have learned of in a class. Some quickly became popular when they hit the market. I love reading posts of other scrappers to see what they like and recommend.

1: Alcohol Inks by Ranger: if you have not played with these yet, they are amazing. I'm totally in love with alcohol inks. They are the only thing I really use on my cards anymore. They are quick and really hard to mess up.

2: Distress inks by Tim Holtz: I always sworn off Tim Holtz products because I thought they were too grunge. I've slowly taken a liking to the distress style, or I just want to tone down some colors. I love inking my paper and the edges of photos.
The solid pink cardstock and the journaling circle are both inked to make them match better
3: Twine: needless to say twine has exploded over the past year. I find myself making random flourishes with it or using it to draw the readers eye across the page. I also love tying bows through buttons. My twine supply has changed my colors during scrapping as I like the nature tones found with The Twinnerys twine.
4: Mists by Tattered Angels and Smooch: Misting has been a new found adventure to me. It took some figuring out, but now I am in love with it. My collection keeps on growing. I highly recommend the Ranger craft mat to attempt to contain the extra mist, since I am a mess maker

5: ATG Adhesive: if you've ever considered the big pink adhesive gun, I highly recommend it. Its a bit big at first, but it is seriously so cheap I can't not use it. Now to keep it from falling off its wall mount and accidentally misting the white walls

6: Echo Park: I seem to fall in love more and more with Echo Park. Hello Summer was one of my favorite lines this year. It was perfect for Wisconsin summers since it wasn't all palm trees and beachy. It was perfect for the colors that are common for us.

7: My Minds Eye: one of my new favorites are My Minds Eye. Their Lost and Found Lines are some of my favorite. The Lost and Found III line quickly became my vacation favorite. I will be posting those pages in the upcoming weeks. I love their use of the color grey, which is another favorite. And even crazier is the fact that these colors are a little move toward vintage that is out of my norm.
8: Washi Tape: I think washi tape has officially taken over everyone's scrapping. It is so easy and versatile. I love that I don't have to deal with glue and I can reposition it until I like how it looks. It makes fun banners and even looks cool ripped.
9: Chevrons: It took me a few months to embrace this pattern, but I'm finally digging the chevrons. I even got the chevron cuttlebug folder, which I am totally in love with.
10: Crops: I've never been into crops, but I started going to my LSS (Local Scrapbook Store). Now I look forward to the midnight crops one Friday a month. It is a great way to get out and meet other scrappers. I've met so many new people this year who have a common hobby. I highly recommend getting out and trying a crop some time. This was very helpful after making the move back to WI.
My scrappy friends at my old church in Michigan. I miss our monthly get togethers.

These were some of my favorite new products of 2012. I am looking forward to CHA Winter which will be coming up in the next few weeks. I'm excited to see the new lines and trends. First I need to get back to work so I can have some spending money.
